Each door in a two-family dwelling must have two locks that are in a combination of keyed locks, a combination keyed lock, and an emergency access lock.


The floors of all multi-family dwellings must have fire and smoke detectors that provide a means of alerting occupants of an impending fire, including an emergency door alarm system that will activate at any time.


The occupancy of a three-family or four-family residential dwelling must include one or more exterior walls that are at least 18 inches (457 mm) high and at least 12 inches (305 mm) wide.


The floor of each two-story dwelling must be designed to be capable of being closed when not in use.
